- List Cleanup and Ranting about people who announce their list cleanups
- April 5th, 2010
I've always been frustrated by people who announce that they're cleaning up their AIM lists... mostly because, depending on the person's contact rules, being on a list or not doesn't stop me being able to contact that person (and anyone douche enough to go invisible or block people not on their list isn't worth being "buddies" with) and I don't stand to lose anything by being dropped by a person who has realized he won't be messaging me anyway. This is the approach that most people take when cleaning their AIM lists.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, here's what I'm doing: I'm going through my list, and I'm poking people who are online and sort of reminding them who I am and seeing if they're still interested. If they don't reply, I'll give up, or possibly try again later if there is something interesting about the person. It will take several iterations because I'm only sorting people who are online.
Then, there's another category of person. This is the type of person who acted like my friend, gave some notice to my IM's when contacted, but showed no interest in me in a setting like a con or the local furry scene (depending on the person, I may well have made numerous attempts to reach him by phone or text in this type of situation). I won't bother with those people, but if you're one of those people and wonder why I never IM you anymore, it's probably because I've realized there's no chance of it ever turning into a real life friendship. If someone puts forth an effort not to become a real life friend, I have no interest in being a virtual friend.
One last thing. Some of you have oh-so-clever AIM names like BleepaBlorg0392 or FoxThis or FurThat. I have no fucking clue who the fucking fuck you are. I try to add notes under your AIM but sometimes they get lost in AOL's servers. Don't be offended if I ask you who you are. If I have to resort to that, that means that searching your AIM ID on every furry site there is turned up nothing helpful. I'd remember your AIM ID if you talked to me more often.
Of course this is all in trying to figure out who's going to FCN so I can try and meet up and give some new folks a chance at becoming a real life friend! By the way...
I STILL HAVE RIDE AND ROOM SPACE AVAILABLE!!!!
